An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight children and a grown-up experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on recently.
However, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was held in detention before a further hearing on 28 November.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "This year his family member had worries about the activities, for good reason.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including infant oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepchild alerted the police about his worries.
She stated the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the situation.
The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the authorities once more.
She explained the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
